Emberonium (Episode-1) CONFERENCE IN THE CLOUDS
EMBERONIUM
1. Conference in the clouds
It was chill and warm at the same instant. I was floating in the air. My feet were not touching the ground. I was free of gravity. A very divine and enchanting music filled the air around me. The music was mesmerizing and it made my heart float with happiness. There was white mist everywhere, and it seemed that I was among the clouds. Suddenly the air around me was enriched by a very pleasant odour. I was moving randomly amidst the clouds. Suddenly there was a loud sound of laughter. I moved towards the direction of the laughter. It seemed that many were having a gala time. Suddenly I could see golden chairs among the clouds at a distance and I moved towards it. As I went near that area I could see that the chairs were not vacant. Each chair was occupied by a man or woman wearing a lot of golden ornaments. It was really strange.
When I went closer a man dressed in tiger hide became clear to my vision. He was having a snake around his neck. He had a trident in his hand. He had smeared three horizontal white marks on his forehead. He had an eye on his forehead! Could this be lord Shiva? The god of destruction! He resembled him. Suddenly a man with four heads and long white beard in each of the heads said to him in a loud voice, “Oh! Lord! Can you please tell us the reason behind this sudden meeting?” Now it is very clear without any doubt that he is Lord Shiva, the god of destruction as per the Hindu Mythology. I guess the four headed man must be Lord Brahma, the god of Creation.
Hindus believe in the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. It is believed that Lord Brahma performs the duty of creating life and Lord Vishnu performs the duty of protecting the lives on the earth and Lord Shiva performs the duty of destroying the lives. I think that the one sitting to Shiva’s right must be Lord Vishnu, because he has the Sudarshana chakra in his right hand and a white conch named Panchajanya in his left hand. There were a number of gods in the meeting. It was really strange and peculiar. I was completely puzzled. Lord Shiva began to explain, “I feel that the human beings are really becoming smart!” Goddess Parvathi, Lord Shiva’s wife and Lord Vishnu’s sister spoke, “You mean the domineering living creatures in the planet Earth of the Solar system in the Milky way galaxy?” Lord Shiva nodded his head.
Goddess Parvathi was wearing a red colour silk saree and she was adorned with innumerable jewels. Lord Muruga, their son said, “Yes, what is wrong with them. They are more pious and devoted than any other living species in any other galaxy. They really believe us and pray to us.” Lord Shiva explained, “I am afraid only about their growth, unlike the creatures in all other galaxy the human beings are really smart. They do unbelievable stuff with the help of their knowledge of science. They are trying to solve all the puzzles of nature by their intelligence. Now-a- days they casually send rockets, satellites and even set up space stations. They have started to explore the other planets in their solar system and now, they are trying to explore their Milky Way galaxy. They know the existence of other galaxies too, and soon they will explore them too.” The goddess of wisdom, Saraswathi who is Lord Brahma’s wife said, “Yes, their growth is really marvelous and incredible. I am really proud of them. I am really happy when a child prays to me for the growth of his wisdom and knowledge. In fact, in the nearest future these children are the ones who are going to bring about some amazing s developments!” Lord Shiva interrupted, “Can’t you people see it? Don’t you understand the impending threat to us? Their inventions and discoveries are going beyond the limit and I fear that they will soon discover us!”
Lord Vishnu butted in, “Why do you fear about that now? In fact, a young chap from the earth had already discovered us many years back! Have you forgotten that? What danger had he brought up on us? Nothing! So don’t worry unnecessarily.” Lord Shiva said, “Yes! What you say is absolutely right! But he was a good man and he promised that he would keep the truths about us a secret. It was a long time back. Then, moral values were considered more important than life. But today the scenario has changed! If any other human being of this period finds us he will not be like that young man who visited us before. What was the name of that young chap? Hmm… Yaah! I got it! It was ‘Rama’ I think. I interacted more with him. He was of very good nature. You cannot expect every human being to be like him today. If they discover us then, that will lead to many problems. Listen to my warning.”
Lord Brahma questioned, “So what have you planned?” Lord Shiva said very clearly in a serious tone, “I am going to wipe out the earth!” At once Lord Muruga shouted in shock, “Father! Are you insane?” Lord Shiva turned to him angrily and said, “You are always the rebellious child Muruga. See your brother Ganesha. He never opposes me under any circumstances. But anyway, what I am going to do is the only way to safe guard ourselves. We have no other choice!” Goddess Saraswathi said in a pleading manner, “Is intelligence such a sin? Is death the punishment for wisdom? Then I am the one who is to be punished! Human beings pray me before starting to learn. I grant them knowledge and brain power. So spare them and punish me! Will you be happy if all the humans become idiots? Will you be satisfied if they have no knowledge of their potential? Already you clear out human population periodically in the name of natural calamities and sweep off the knowledge gathered by many generations in a single second. But the next generation arises and rediscovers its glorious past. We all have been silent spectators of this drama again and again.” All were listening to her intently and nodding their heads in agreement.
Lord Shiva said in a fed up tone, “Don’t be so weak at heart Saraswathi! Our protection alone is not the reason behind my plan. Human beings have changed a lot today. They have no fear for us. They do all sorts of crimes and have no morality. They are committing sins after sins. Their sins have become intolerable and mother earth is crying in pain! They hurt their fellow beings physically and mentally and even kill them. So they ought to be punished. They have to face the ‘doomsday’. This is their end.” Lord Vishnu said, “Oh! Come on Shiva! You cannot punish everyone for this. Even Mother Earth will not be happy about your decision. Don’t decide in haste. What about the young babies and innocent kids? What sort of sins did they do? Why should they be punished? Show some mercy on human beings! They are like our children. Just for our safety, security and secrecy we cannot destroy them completely. They have toiled for generations and developed the present world with all comforts. Are we going to kill them just like that? They pray to us with faith and belief. Is ‘dooms day’ a reward and an answer to their prayer? There should be some other way. Calm yourself down and consider our views.” Soon most of the gods in the meeting accepted what Lord Vishnu had said and they tried to convince Lord Shiva. After a while Lord Shiva said, “OK, since you all don’t want to punish the whole of the human population, I have decided to turn all the grownups into ashes. There is a way……”
